Intercity bus plans get rolling

Plans for an intercity bus service between Sarnia, Strathroy, Mount Brydges and London are expected to really get rolling this fall.

Sarnia's acting director of engineering David Jackson says in a report to council that they're collaborating with the other municipalities now, to select a private sector service provider.

Mayor Mike Bradley says they've been working on reinstating the service since meeting with Greyhound bus service in February 2018.

"They brought to the city's attention the fact that there was funding for five years to support such a service," said Bradley. "Since then, there's been a linkage with Strathroy-Caradoc and the City of London and now it appears what's moving forward is to have that service in place -- through a private provider, through a bidding process -- hopefully for early 2020."

A grant of $1.45 million over five years to implement the service was confirmed earlier this year.

While the timeline is still uncertain, the municipalities are hoping to have an agreement with a service provider by the end of October.
