Legionnaires open GOJHL season with win

The Greater Ontario Junior League's regular season began Saturday with the annual Showcase tournament in Pelham.

The Sarnia Legionnaires defeated the Buffalo Regals 4-2.

Ben Schoch had a goal and two assists for Sarnia.

Ayden Letang, Matthew Cunningham and Josh Barraclough also scored for the Legionnaires.

Sarnia's Jakob Knowles stopped 25 of 27 shots.

Sarnia was 2 for 7 on the power play while Buffalo was 0 for 11.

The Legionnaires face off against Caledonia Sunday at 7:30 p.m. in Pelham.

In other action Chatham and Niagara Falls tied 5-5. St. Marys beat Fort Erie 7-2. LaSalle downed Stratford 4-1. Leamington edged St. Catharines 4-3 and Komoka doubled Kitchener 4-3 in double overtime.

Two men arrested in Tashmoo Ave. standoff

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
