Man charged following hockey arena break-ins

A 41-year-old man is charged in a pair of break and enters to the Progressive Auto Sales Arena.

Sarnia police responded to an alarm call just before midnight Wednesday night.

When officers arrived, they found unsecured doors and noticed someone tried unsuccessfully to enter the ATM.

Cst. John Sottosanti said they weren't able to locate a suspect, but were called back to the arena just a couple of hours later at around 2 a.m Thursday.

"Officers were able to arrive on scene in short order and observe the suspect attempting to flee from the building on foot. Officers gave chase on foot and were able to take the suspect into custody without incident," said Sottosanti. "The suspect refused to identify himself to police at the time and was found to be in possession of break-and-enter instruments along with a small quantity of cocaine."

The man is charged with two counts of break and enter, possession of a controlled substance, and possession of break-in instruments.

He had a bail hearing Thursday morning.
