No bail for Sarnia murder suspect

A 31-year-old Sarnia man charged with second-degree murder has been denied bail.

Matthew Theriault, dressed in black and wearing handcuffs, was remanded in custody Thursday following a two-day bail hearing at Sarnia courthouse.

Justice Bruce Thomas adjourned the case to September 24 where Theriault is scheduled to make a video appearance.

Theriault is charged in connection with a violent altercation between two men April 17 on Maxwell Street near St. Vincent Street.

Jesse Mowat-Caudle, 26, was found lying on the ground with critical injuries outside a residence. He died in London hospital early the next morning.

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
