Young offender charged after officer hit with beer bottle

A young offender faces charges after a Sarnia police officer was struck with a beer bottle early last Friday morning.

At about 1:55 a.m. September 13, officers in the 1000 block of Michigan Avenue came into contact with intoxicated individuals while returning a wandering dog to a residence.

Police said a female passed out in the bushes on the front lawn, woke up and began yelling and screaming along with an intoxicated man who had come out of the house.

The situation escalated when a second young male came outside, started yelling obscenities at the officers, and threatened to throw a beer bottle at them.

The first male tried to stop the younger one from throwing the bottle, and when an officer tried to help he was struck in the head with the bottle during a struggle.

The young offender, who can't be named, is charged with assaulting police, assault with a weapon, and obstructing police.

The officer suffered minor injuries in the incident.
