Annual Kidney Walk at Canatara

Kidney walkers across the province are hoping to raise $1 million for the Kidney Foundation of Canada's Ontario branch.

Local organizers are hoping to raise $40,000 towards that target, at the 16th annual Kidney Walk Sunday at Canatara Park.

Kidney Foundation Executive Director Elaine Hayter said 50 per cent of the money raised goes to research, the other 50 per cent supports local programs to help patients on dialysis.

"We advocate on patients behalf and we have a friendly visitor program," said Hayter. "We pay for the patients snacks at the Sarnia Dialysis Unit on a yearly basis and we've done that for just over 30 years."

Registration is at 9 a.m. at the Canatara Park Kiwanis Pavilion. The walk begins at 10 a.m.
