Nearly $35K seized in Sarnia drug bust

Sarnia police seized nearly $35,000 in currency in a drug raid late last week.

At around 8 p.m. Thursday, members of the vice branch conducting surveillance spotted a suspect in his vehicle.

Cst. John Sottosanti said the officers watched the suspect and a woman allegedly conduct a drug deal in a central Sarnia parking lot.

"Vice unit officers stopped the vehicle and arrested both occupants," he said. "A search of the vehicle was conducted and a quantity of cocaine was located within the vehicle. Both suspects were transported to back to the station while the vice officers attended the male suspects home."

Cst. Sottosanti said at about 8:40 p.m. Thursday, a home on Lanark Place was searched and officers seized 37.21 grams of cocaine valued at $3,725 and $34,852 in cash.

Craig Anthony Saunders, 42, of Sarnia is charged with possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking.

The 29-year-old female was charged with possession of a controlled substance and released on a promise to appear.

Two men arrested in Tashmoo Ave. standoff

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
