Cleanup and repairs were needed at about a dozen public schools in Lambton after torrential rains in severe thunderstorms earlier this month.
Lambton Kent District School Board Superintendent Brian McKay said several schools had some water damage.
"That night we had impacted schools both in Sarnia and in Petrolia," said McKay. So Petrolia Hillcrest and Queen Elizabeth and in Sarnia a number of schools including Northern, Erroll Road, Alexander Mackenzie, Hanna Memorial, Bridgeview, King George VI Public School and London Road Public School."
McKay said a couple of ceiling tiles in a girls washroom at Great Lakes Secondary School also had minor damage.
"We had a couple ceiling tiles that did get wet that we did replace," he said. "That water infiltration though which was very minor occurred on the existing roof, so that's the roof that was already there from the past St. Clair Secondary School era. It wasn't replaced as part of the current capital work that's ongoing at the school."
He said there was no impact to learning and all schools remained open while the cleanup and repairs were done.
The storms on September 11, 2019 overloaded the sewers and flooded streets in Sarnia, and even dislodged some manhole covers.
Environment Canada confirmed an EF1 tornado with winds up to 140 kilometres an hour along Rokeby Line, southeast of Petrolia.
