Impaired driving charge laid after crash causes outage

A Sarnia man has been charged after a car hit a hydro pole at Exmouth Street and East Street just before 1 a.m. Sunday.

Police said a vehicle heading eastbound on Exmouth mounted the curb and struck the pole causing a power outage in the central part of the city.

Police said the vehicle left the scene but was found later by police driving erratically on Oxford Street.

An officer stopped the vehicle and arrested the driver who was taken to police headquarters where he failed a breath test.

A 26-year-old Sarnia man is now charged with impaired driving.
