More improvements needed at Centennial Park

Sarnia council has given staff the green light to solicit a landscape architect to begin design work to improve Centennial Park.

Following a request from council in May, CAO Chris Carter asked for feedback from user groups over the summer.

While feedback was positive about gardens, walkways, the boat ramp and playground, a number of deficiencies were identified.

User groups said the Suncor Agora stage lacks accessibility, shade, seating, ventilation and acoustics, and faces the wrong direction.

Hydro, water drainage concerns were also identified and people would like to see an access point for canoes and kayaks installed.

The park underwent about $13.5 million in renovations over four years, reopening to the public in June of 2017.
