United Way campaign halfway there, still living on a prayer

The Sarnia-Lambton United Way has reached a pivotal point in the campaign.

Executive Director Dave Brown said they've surpassed the halfway mark and raised $975,000 or 51.3 per cent of the $1.9 million target.

"We are still a little bit behind but we should surpass the million-dollar mark the first part of this week," said Brown. "We are going to be getting Shell numbers and a couple of other campaign totals but it's still slow. We're getting more and more concerned, but we still have almost two months to go so we're not panicking yet. We are encouraging anybody who has donated in the past but not yet this year to please get their contributions in."

Brown said they've also started accepting registrations for the annual Drewlo Stairclimb.

The fundraising event, at 1285 Sandy Lane, is set for Giving Tuesday, December 3.

Money raised will benefit 18 local agencies, which provide 36 programs and services.
