Bayside, county lease talks continue well past deadline

Lease negotiations between Lambton County and the Bayside Centre continue, more than a month after a deadline set to finalize a deal.

County Council instructed staff July 3rd to close negotiations for the redevelopment of the county's leased space in the mall, no later than the end of September.

While negotiations were discussed by county council again Wednesday, nothing was reported out of a meeting held behind closed doors.

Warden Bill Weber said an agreement is still a work in progress.

"Points are being addressed and I think it's looking favourable, but there's some time to go," said Weber.

Oakville-based Seasons Retirement Communities acquired the old mall in 2017 and have ambitious plans for redevelopment of the site.

Relocating Lambton Shared Services to the southern block was also proposed.

The city agreed to sell the land underneath the mall to Seasons for $1 million last summer, but an agreement with the county on a new lease for 73,000 square feet of office space is required first.
