Local United Way campaign up slightly over last week

Despite a down week, the Sarnia-Lambton United Way believes they'll be able to reach this year's campaign fundraising target.

The organization said they're up about two per cent over last week at $1.24 million.

That's 65 per cent of the 1.9 million needs target.

Executive Director Dave Brown said they could be in for a big few weeks with Bluewater Health and a number of local banks kicking off their campaigns.

"There are some big manufacturing companies that are running too," said Brown. "We're hoping that they're going to come in at or above last year's levels. We still have $640,000 to go. It's quite a bit in the next five weeks but our fingers are crossed."

Brown said they'll be sending mailouts to nearly 22,000 homes next week, and residents can also make donations online.

The annual Drewlo Stairclimb takes place on December 3.

Money raised will benefit 18 local agencies, which provide 36 programs and services.
