Sarnia police have a 31-year-old man in custody after investigating reports of someone carrying a rifle in the 100 block of Stuart Street.

Officers were called to the area at around 12:25 p.m. on Monday.

It's alleged the suspect, who had a pellet gun, gave a fake name when approached.

He was also wanted on an outstanding warrant for failing to attend court.

Police said the suspect allegedly broke away when they tried to arrest him and was taken into custody after a brief foot chase.

Judson Leslie Brown, 31 of Sarnia, is charged with resisting a peace officer, public mischief, and failing to comply with conditions of an undertaking.

He was held in custody for a bail hearing.
