Sarnia police have arrested a city man after he allegedly racked up over $22,000 in fraudulent credit card transactions using fake military identification.
It's alleged a man used the ID to purchase over $800 worth of goods at Home Depot in London on November 9.
Police said he bought about $1,000 worth of merchandise at the Sarnia store two days later.
Cst. John Sottosanti said the suspect returned to the local Home Depot on November 14 while police were conducting surveillance.
"The suspect was arrested regarding an unrelated outstanding warrant," said Sottosanti. "As the investigation continued, officers found the suspect to be in possession of a National Defence driver's licence bearing the suspect's photo but the name of someone else. On November 15, a warrant was executed at the residence of the accused to locate further evidence related to the crime."
Sottosanti said receipts and another National Defence driver's licence were seized from the suspect's residence.
The accused allegedly opened numerous Home Depot credit card accounts in Sarnia, London, and the GTA between August 8, and November 7.
Dustin Ray Alexander Bedard, 31, of Sarnia is charged with forgery of a credit card, fraud over $5,000, possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000, and two counts each of fraud under $5,000, unlawful use of military uniforms, and failing to comply with recognizance.
He was being held in custody for a court appearance on January 14, 2020.
