Gateway Casinos is hosting a job fair Thursday to fill about 70 positions at Hiawatha Horse Park and at the Point Edward casino.
The event is from 11 a.m. until 6 p.m. at Point Edward’s Sunbridge Hotel & Conference Centre.
Gateway Communications & Public Affairs Director Rob Mitchell said they're looking to fill a wide variety of positions created by the return of slots to the London Line racetrack.
"They're a mix of both full and part-time, and they kind of cross the spectrum. We've got lots of opportunities in food and beverage for servers and bartenders, there are positions in housekeeping and security and we've even got some supervisory roles between both sites, and opportunities at the cash cage. So we're hiring across the board," he said. "You can apply online, you can visit the Gateway website, but it really would be helpful to get out there in person and meet with our staff, and that way you have a name and a face and you'll get a sense of what we're looking for."
Gateway is currently installing 150 slot machines at Hiawatha Horse Park, and Mitchell said they hope to be in operation within the first month of the new year.
"We're shooting for a January 31st opening at Hiawatha, so I would think if you can get out [to the job fair] this Thursday, you'll likely get a response early in the new year," he said. "We're on schedule and things seem to be all falling into place, and we're looking forward to being open for business."
Gateway, which already runs Point Edward’s Starlight Casino, was issued a $2.9 million building permit in October for renovations at the London Line facility.
Sarnia City Council approved the return of slot machines at Hiawatha in May of this year after the Doug Ford government reached an agreement with Gateway in the fall of 2018.
The city will earn 5.25 per cent of the first $65 million generated from the slots.
