Sting's festive fundraiser set for Saturday

The Sarnia Sting are getting into the Christmas spirit on Saturday.

The team will be wearing specialty "Buddy the Elf" jerseys during the game against Mississauga, and fans are asked to bring non-perishable food items.

Select jerseys will be auctioned off live, on-ice following the game while the rest will be available for bid online here.

All food donations and proceeds from the jersey auction will go to support the Inn of the Good Shepherd.

Sting President Bill Abercrombie said the team is always happy to help out in the community.

"This one is a no-brainer for us," said Abercrombie. "We are thrilled to have the opportunity to use our platform and with the support of our fans be able to give to the local Inn of the Good Shepherd. The work they do to help those who need it in this community is remarkable and this is one small way we can assist.

"We were able to lend a hand earlier today with a couple of our players and to see the need firsthand is something people really don’t realize. It was certainly an eye-opener and we encourage anyone who his able to help any way they can."

Inn of the Good Shepherd Executive Director Myles Vanni said the campaign raised $10,000 for the Inn in 2018, and that they're hoping to top the figure this year.

"Over the first four years we've raised almost $20,000, so that's a huge opportunity for us to put resources into helping families, whether it's buying food for the food bank or toys for Christmas for kids, or helping people with a hydro or rent bill."

Saturday's game starts at 4:05 p.m., and you can hear all of the action on CHOK.
