Hundreds of LCCVI students form 'Canned Food Brigade'

Students from LCCVI lined the streets of Petrolia Friday to support those in need this holiday season.

The secondary school's Canned Food Brigade raised $1660.70 and collected over 2,000 cans for the Petrolia Food Bank.

Vice Principal Scott Watson said the line of more than 700 students went from LCCVI to Hogan's Pharmacy, more than half a kilometre long stretch.

He said it's the first time the school's annual food drive has hit the streets.

"So our student council along with our principal, Greg Nemcek, they thought just to bring a different aspect to the food drive we'd do the Canned Food Brigade and hand-bomb the food down along the streets within our community to let people know that the kids are caring and sharing during the festive season."

Watson said the all-in effort was an amazing sight to see.
