UPDATE: Sudden loss of area firefighter mourned

Tributes and condolences were pouring in Sunday following the tragic loss of a young firefighter in a crash late Friday morning.

Lambton OPP confirmed Saturday night that Tanner Redick, 20, of Brooke-Alvinston was killed when his vehicle came into collision with a combine on Petrolia Line east of the Town of Petrolia.

In a post to its Facebook page Sunday, Brooke Fire Rescue said "We are deeply saddened by the loss of one of our own."

Lambton emergency crews responded to Petrolia Line between Inwood Road and Nauvoo Road at around 11:30 a.m. on Friday.

OPP West Region Technical Collision Investigators (TCI) attended the scene to assist with the investigation. The road was closed for several hours.

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
