Sarnia man charged with assaulting two officers

A 25-year-old Sarnia man faces charges after two city police officers were assaulted in separate incidents over the weekend.

On Saturday police located a missing man near Lambton Mall Road, and while trying to interact with him, the suspect allegedly turned and punched one of the officers in the face. The officer, who was knocked unconscious momentarily, was able to regain consciousness and help the other officer arrest the man after a brief struggle.

The next day, when officers were removing the accused from his jail cell for fingerprinting, he allegedly charged and struck an officer in the eye. Officers regained control and put the man back in his cell.

Both officers are recovering and will be alright.

Dillon Dallas Heywood was being held pending a bail hearing on two counts of assaulting a peace officer and one count of uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm.
