A $1.5 million renovation and upgrade is now complete at Sarnia's YMCA Jerry McCaw Family Centre.
Staff were joined by Y members and local dignitaries for a grand reopening ceremony at the Finch Drive facility Wednesday morning.
General Manager Paul Skuza said the space has been modernized.
"It started with some back-of-the-house items, mixing valves, heating and cooling units, flooring replacements, roofing repairs that were quite costly but very necessary, and then we are really highlighting our new wellness centre that is almost $500,000 of improved equipment, floor layout, industry-leading programming and we're just really proud of it," said Skuza. "We're hoping more people come and check it out."
Skuza said they still have more plans for the facility, which was built in 1996.
"We still have some plans in 2020. It's a 23-year-old building, so we're always going to need to keep improving it and raising the bar. Lighting is on the agenda, our gym could still use some improvement, as well as some of the other spaces around the centre, so, we might be able to address some of that."
The project received funding from the Trillium Foundation earlier this year.
