Point Edward water rates rising in 2020

Point Edward's water and sewer budget for 2020 calls for a 2.39 per cent rate increase and a hike in contributions to reserves from 22 cents per cubic meter to 26 cents.

Deputy Mayor Greg Grimes, who also chairs the Water/Wastewater Committee, said the rates in the village are among the lowest in Lambton County.

"The average home bill will be approximately $71.52 per month in 2020, while the range throughout Lambton County is $57.61 to $120.98 monthly," Grimes said in a news release

The price estimates, based on a family using 15 cubic meters a month, represent an increase of $1.55 per month.

Mayor Bev Hand said staff and council again presented a fiscally responsible plan for the village's water and wastewater departments.

"This budget allows for improvements in the operations of the Environmental Services Department while at the same time increasing reserves for future requirements," she said.
