Marinaro and Moore-Towers defend title, set national record

It was a record-breaking weekend for Sarnia's Michael Marinaro and his partner Kirsten Moore-Towers of St. Catharines.

The pair defended their national pairs title at the Canadian figure skating championship on Saturday in Mississauga.

The duo nailed two triple throws en route to top spot with 215.67 points.

That set a new Canadian record in the senior category.

Evelyn Walsh of London, and Trennt Michaud of Brantford, were second at 196.29 and Lubov Ilyushechkina of Toronto and Charlie Bilodeau of Trois-Pistoles, Quebec, were third at 186.71.

Marinaro and Moore-Towers will represent the Canadian national team at the ISU World Championship from March 16-22 in Montreal.
