Alleged purse thief arrested

Sarnia police have arrested an alleged purse thief who targeted a couple of women in their 70s this month.

After a surveillance camera photo was released Monday police identified a suspect.

At about 11:25 a.m. on Tuesday, officers responded to a break-and-enter in the 100 block of Conestoga Drive. A resident investigating a noise was confronted by a man in a rear room who ended up leaving the home without incident.

Police tracked down the suspect who is was also wanted in connection with the purse-snatching incidents on January 16 and January 19.

Robert Leonard Charboneau, 42, of Sarnia was being held pending a bail hearing on two counts of robbery with violence, three counts of breach of probation, and one count of break and enter.

In the first purse-snatching incident, a 73-year-old woman fell and was treated for minor injuries. The second victim, a 76-year-old woman, was not hurt.

Two men arrested in Tashmoo Ave. standoff

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
