Historic Sarnia church sold

Central United Church in Sarnia has been sold.

The historic church, at the corner of Brock and George Streets, was listed for sale last summer.

Cushman and Wakefield Broker Kenn Poore wouldn't say who purchased the downtown landmark or detail the terms.

"I'm not at liberty at this time to discuss the owner's intent for the property, but suffice it to say that the congregation was happy with the purchaser," said Poore.

He said the church had been listed for $369,000.

"We had six offers in total over the course of the marketing term and we sold it very near the asking price."

Poore said the buyer has agreed to close on the property following the church's 188th-anniversary service in November.

Central United was built in 1888 and had additions in 1925 and 1950.

The 20,000 square foot building sits on 1.6 acres of land.
