DeGurse hat-trick leads Legionnaires past Lincolns in OT

Nolan DeGurse scored three goals, including the OT winner, to lead the Sarnia Legionnaires to a 5-4 overtime win over the visiting St. Marys Lincolns Thursday Night.

DeGurse, who missed the previous four games with an injury, also scored a short-handed goal with just 42 seconds left in regulation to send the game to an extra frame -- the Bright's Grove native finished the night with four points to increase his team-lead in points to 49 on the season.

Legionnaires head coach Derek DiMuzio said his team came up big when it mattered most.

"We battled super hard. A lot of adversity lately, especially in that game and we overcame it and that's a great sign," he said. "DeGurse was fantastic, he was an offensive catalyst for us, but obviously our goaltending, Nolan DeKoning played great."

The Sarnia netminder stopped 47 of the 51 shots he faced and was named the game's third star. Sarnia forwards Will O`Leary-Dilosa, Josh Barraclough, Joseph Ferrera, and defenceman Ben Schoch all finished the game with two points.

A turning point in the game may have come with about four minutes remaining in the third period after the Legionnaires PK killed off a five-minute major penalty, including a full two-minute five-on-three man advantage.

The win snapped a five-game losing streak for the Legionnaires who, with 11 games remaining, sit eighth in the Western Conference with 30 points, three points back of Komoka for seventh and seven points clear of the ninth-placed St. Thomas Stars.

The Legionnaires are back in action Saturday night in Strathroy.
