Warwick residents urged to test private wells

Homeowners with private wells in Warwick Township are being asked to test their drinking water for sodium.

The Provincial Groundwater Monitoring Network (PGMN) has notified Lambton Public Health that groundwater samples from monitoring wells in Warwick contained higher than normal levels of sodium.

The levels are reportedly above acceptable limits set by the Ontario Drinking Water Standards and could indicate that sodium levels in the groundwater are also above acceptable levels.

Lambton Public Health said testing is especially recommended for residents with hypertension or congestive heart failure on a private well, and those on a sodium-restricted diet.

The health unit does not offer a water testing service for sodium, so homeowners will have to contact a water-testing lab.

The municipal water system is not affected.
