Young Sarnia gymnast to face 'Elite' competition in Calgary

A 15-year-old Sarnia gymnast is heading to Calgary this week to compete against some of the best young athletes in the sport.

Rachael Riley from Bluewater Gymnastics will compete in the 2020 Elite Canada Women’s Artistic Gymnastics Competition February 6 to 9.

The event will bring together the 100 top athletes from across Canada from the novice, junior and senior categories in women’s artistic Gymnastics-- there will be a total of 45 medals awarded.

Riley already has a long track record of success in gymnastics, including two golds, three silvers and two bronze medals in vault at competitions between 2017 and 2019 -- Riley was also named a Canadian Novice All-Around Champion in 2017.

Sarnia Bluewater Gymnastics Head Coach and Director Pilar Maldonado is also heading to this week's competition in Calgary -- Pilar has over 20 years of coaching experience and she holds a Masters Degree in Sport Psychology and an advanced Degree in Physical Activities and Sport.

Two men arrested in Tashmoo Ave. standoff

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
