Ice Fishing Derby cancelled again

It's unfortunate news for anglers in Sarnia-Lambton, as this year's Ice Fishing Derby has been cancelled once again.

The event was scheduled to take place February 15.

Bluewater Anglers Board Member Ron Allison said it's the second year in a row they've had to scrap the derby due to lack of ice.

"Well obviously there is no ice out there -- there was thought of having a little bit of a derby off the shore but, even at that, if there's just the slightest bit of ice people tend do dumb things, so we didn't want to be any part of that, so we cancelled it for a second year."

Allison said they hope next year's event will have a record turnout similar to the derby from 2018.

"Looking forward to mother nature going along with it next year and hopefully we can have a derby because, like I said, the kids love it."
