A leak of isobutylene and isoprene at ARLANXEO's Sarnia site Monday afternoon was the result of a pinhole leak in a pipeline.
The company said Tuesday morning that the leak was quickly isolated and the line depressurized, and there were no detectable hydrocarbon readings at the fence line.
The Sarnia fire department was called to the site as a precautionary measure under Chemical Valley Emergency Coordinating Organization (CVECO) protocol.
Public Education Officer Mike Otis said Monday that firefighters from three stations responded at 1:25 p.m. and established unified command with ARLANXEO's shift captain.
"Together, crews were able to isolate and dissipate the leak while safely depressurizing the line," Otis said in a news release. "There is no known public hazard or off-site impact as a result of the incident and no injuries have been reported."
The all-clear was issued at 2:45 p.m.
ARLANXEO said the Vidal Street South plant has resumed normal operations.
