Drive shed destroyed by fire in St. Clair Township

A drive shed fire in St. Clair Township kept volunteer firefighters busy early Friday morning.

Deputy Chief Steve Bicum said they responded to the structure fire on Moore Line near Highway 40 at around midnight.

"On arrival we found a 30 x 40 foot drive shed that was fully involved at the time," said Bicum. "Courtright stations and Corunna stations responded, as well as support from Brigden to extinguish that fire, which we concluded around 2:30 a.m."

He said damage to the structure was too severe to determine a cause.

"We know that there was electrical power running to the building. It wasn't being used for any purpose at this point. It had been an old horse stable. We suspect that perhaps some mice, or birds, or something like that, got into (the building) and perhaps shorted our an electrical connection."

Bicum said no one was injured.

"It was unoccupied by any animals or people at that point."

Damage is estimated at $50,000.
