Marshalls/HomeSense opening attracts crowds despite pandemic, heat warning (GALLERY)

A line of people waiting for the doors to open wrapped around Sarnia's new Marshalls/HomeSense store at Lambton Mall Wednesday morning.

Despite the pandemic and heat warning, about 40 people were lined up at 10 a.m., one hour before the store started welcoming its first customers.

TJX Chief Executive Officer and President Ernie Herrman said in an email to BlackburnNews.com Monday that the number of customers allowed in at one time would be limited.

He said employees would be given personal protective equipment and protective shields have been installed at cash registers.

Herrman also said social distancing markers would be displayed at checkout lines and there would be enhanced cleaning of high-touch surfaces throughout the day.
