County to consider roundabout at dangerous St. Clair Township intersection

A roundabout at Petrolia Line and Kimball Road will be incorporated into next year's Lambton County budget for consideration.

County council supported St. Clair Township Mayor Steve Arnold's motion during its virtual meeting Wednesday.

Mayor Arnold said he believes it's the safest choice.

"There are no other options, unless you put stoplights in from both ways, or stop signs from both ways," said Arnold. "The purpose of a roundabout is to eliminate a T-bone accident and any of those other options that go further than what we currently have, they do nothing to address that T-bone issue if somebody runs the stop sign or the stoplight."

Arnold said staff has done a great job trying to improve the intersection with an overhead flashing light, oversized signs and clearing sightlines.

"This is the logical next step," he said.

A 66-year-old Glencoe man died in the most recent serious crash at the intersection.

Lambton OPP, Lambton EMS and volunteer firefighters responded to a crash between a transport truck and a motor vehicle on May 4.
