Two charged in serious assault of woman

Two Sarnia residents face assault and weapons charges after a 31-year-old woman suffered significant injuries in a beating Tuesday night.

City police responded to a residence in the 100 block of Stuart Street at about 6:30 p.m. for a report of a female yelling for help.

Police said a woman woke up to a man and another woman assaulting her with some kind of blunt weapon. It's alleged the victim was threatened with further harm if she didn't leave the residence. Police said all the individuals knew each other and it was an isolated incident.

The woman's injuries were significant but not life-threatening.

Stephanie Crystal Robar, 36, and Patrick Louis Newman, 45, are each charged with assault causing bodily harm, assault with a weapon and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.

Robar also faces two counts of breach of probation, and Newman is charged with uttering a threat to cause death or bodily harm.

The suspects were arrested at the residence and were being held pending bail hearings.
