Witnesses help OPP track down alleged impaired driver

Lambton OPP arrested and charged a 55-year-old St. Clair Township man following a crash in Corunna Thursday night.

Police responded to a collision on Albert Street around 8:40 p.m.

Witnesses reported that a vehicle was driven erratically on Blackthorn Crescent before it struck a pickup truck and allegedly drove away. The witnesses were able to write down the license plate number, which police used to locate the vehicle and driver.

The driver, who police alleged showed signs of impairment, was arrested and taken to the detachment where he was charged with impaired driving, dangerous operation and failure to stop after an accident.

He is scheduled to appear in Sarnia court on August 10.

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
