Distraught man threatens to set himself on fire

A man was taken to hospital after threatening to set himself on fire early Friday morning.

Sarnia police were called to the area of Indian Road and Exmouth Street at around 5 a.m. for reports of a man carrying a jerry can full of gas and a lighter, who was threatening to hurt himself.

While officers tried to calm the man down, another approached from behind and was able to knock the fuel can out of his hands.

The distraught man was secured and taken to hospital for treatment.

No one was injured in the incident.

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
