Sarnia police make arrest following motorcycle pursuit

Sarnia police have tracked down and charged a 54-year-old city man in connection with a police pursuit.

On July 2, at about 10:30 a.m. an officer noticed a motorcycle with an expired validation tag and unconfirmed insurance parked at a motel in the 1700 block of London Line.

Police said an attempt was made to stop the motorcycle as it left the motel parking lot but it continued west on London Line and almost hit another vehicle as it merged onto Modeland Road.

The police pursuit was stopped for public safety as the motorcycle reached speeds estimated at more than 140 kilometres per hour and ran a red light on southbound Modeland at Wellington Street.

The identity of a suspect was determined during a follow-up investigation that included video surveillance. On Monday afternoon, the suspect was arrested.

The 54-year-old man from Sarnia is charged with flight from police and dangerous operation of a vehicle.

He was released on a promise to appear in court.
