Point Edward Arena closed till late September, splash pad still closed

Memorial Arena in Point Edward will stay closed until the winter sports season gets underway in late September.

CAO Jim Burns said the village council decided Tuesday to keep the facility closed to the public.

"I think the main reason we made that decision is just for planning purposes, so to let any potential user groups know that we are not going to open the arena," said Burns. "It gives us an opportunity to get ready for the coming season and allows us to plan our staff time around that decision, as well as letting potential user groups know that the facility is just not available this summer."

Burns said council has also decided to keep the splash pad closed for now, despite being allowed to reopen the facility during Stage 2.

He said council will reexamine the issue once the municipality is given the green light to move to Stage 3 of the province's pandemic reopening plan.
