Police recover stolen vehicle after pursuit

Sarnia police recovered a stolen vehicle and arrested a suspect within an hour Tuesday night.

Police received a complaint of a vehicle theft from the 1200 block of London Road at about 8:10 pm.

While the description of the vehicle was being broadcast at about 8:40 p.m., an officer on the road spotted the vehicle headed north on Mitton Street near Wellington Street.

Police say the driver tried to evade police ignoring several stop signs, before finally pulling over in the Mitton and Cromwell streets area.

Robert James Maness, 24, of Sarnia was arrested on charges of theft of a motor vehicle, dangerous operation of a vehicle, flight from police, unauthorized possession of a weapon, and three counts of property obtained by crime under $5,000.

Police say during a search they seized property belonging to others including a laptop. A flick knife was also seized.

Two men arrested in Tashmoo Ave. standoff

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
