Smoke alarms alert residents in Bedford Cres. house fire

Damage was minimal thanks to the speedy response to a structure fire in the city's south end by Sarnia Fire and Rescue Services Sunday morning.

Life safety educator Mike Otis said they were called to Bedford Crescent at 7:30 a.m.

"We quickly extinguished the fire, containing it to a very small area in a bedroom," said Otis.

He said the four people in the home at the time were able to evacuate safely thanks to working smoke alarms.

No injuries were reported and the cause has been deemed accidental.
