Man charged with impaired by drug after van hits house

A 28-year-old Sarnia man is charged with drug-impaired driving after a van slammed into a home on Michigan Avenue in Point Edward.

Lambton OPP, Point Edward Fire, and Lambton EMS responded to the crash at around 4 p.m. October 2.

The fire department was able to free the man from the driver's seat, and police said he was showing signs of impairment.

The driver was taken to hospital as a precaution and a drug recognition evaluation was done.

The man is charged with operation while impaired by drug under the Criminal Code of Canada.

He is scheduled to appear in Sarnia court on November 9.

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
