Vacancy for Sarnia/Point Edward trustee on public school board

The Lambton-Kent District School Board is seeking applicants to fill a vacancy on its board of trustees in the Sarnia and Point Edward area.

Brittany Jenkins has stepped down two years into the current four-year term. No reason was given for her decision.

Board Chair Jane Bryce said they're looking for someone who is committed to public education and who will promote student success and wellbeing.

She said the matter will be discussed at the next board meeting at the Sarnia Education Centre on October 27.

"We will interview at that board meeting if we have 10 or less applicants," said Bryce. "If we have more, and we think it will take a lot of time, we will then set a date and hold a special board meeting just for the applications."

Bryce said following the interviews, the trustees will vote by ballot for their preferred applicant.

The successful candidate will represent the board for a two-year term, with the next election scheduled for the fall of 2022.

Application letters must be sent to Education Director John Howitt by noon on October 21.

The Lambton-Kent District School Board provides educational services to 21,000 students in 62 elementary and secondary schools across the region.
