Popular Petrolia tree program back for another year

Residents of Petrolia can get their hands on a free tree this week, if they're quick enough.

Registration for the town's annual tree program opens Tuesday [Oct. 20] at 8:30 a.m.

Director of Facilities and Community Services Dave Menzies said the 150 trees up grabs will likely be gone within an hour of the phone lines opening.

"You got to be quick. You call town hall and get registered that Tuesday morning and hopefully you're in on a free tree."

Menzies said over the past 20 years-plus, the tree program has been one of the town's most popular initiatives.

"It all plays a large part in both climate care and beautification for the town," he said. "There are eight different varieties and new this year is the Celebration Maple -- its fall colours are orange, yellow and red. It's a pretty neat looking tree in the fall season."

Trees are available for pick-up with certificate on October 23 from Windover Nurseries.
