Louisiana Shell refinery closing

Royal Dutch Shell has announced it's closing its Convent refinery in Louisiana.

Media outlets cited a company statement Thursday that said the shutdown process will begin at mid-month.

The refinery's 700 employees reportedly will keep their jobs through February of next year.

The closure comes after Shell failed to find a buyer for the facility.

The company said the decision to close is part of its global strategy to invest in sites strategically positioned for a transition to a low-carbon future.

In mid-October, Shell Canada announced it was no longer actively pursuing the sale of its Sarnia Manufacturing Centre near Corunna, and said there were no plans to close the refinery.
