Sarnia driver allegedly blows 2.5 times legal limit

A 57-year-old Sarnia woman was taken off the road and charged with impaired driving Sunday night, thanks in part to a tip from a concerned citizen.

Sarnia police responded to a business in the 600 block of Murphy Road before 9 p.m. after a witness reported a possible impaired driver outside of her vehicle in the parking lot. Police said the accused had entered the vehicle and began to pull forward just as officers arrived on scene.

Following a roadside breath test that registered a “fail” reading, the accused was arrested and taken to police headquarters for further tests which allegedly showed a blood alcohol concentration 2.5 times the legal limit.

The driver's licence has been suspended for 90 days and her vehicle has been impounded for one week.

Mothers Against Drunk Driving Sarnia-Lambton kicked off its annual red ribbon campaign, which raises awareness about the risks and consequences of impaired driving, earlier this month.
