Respected longtime Lambton educator dies

A respected former Sarnia-Lambton educator has died.

Gene McCaffrey's career with the Lambton County Board of Education spanned 35 years, including 22 years as a principal in the public school system.

He began his teaching career at the former Central Collegiate in 1956 after graduating from the University of Western Ontario, and retired as principal of St. Clair Secondary School in 1991.

Born of Irish immigrant parents in Sarnia, Mr. McCaffrey grew up in Point Edward. He contributed generously as a volunteer to several organizations, boards, and causes, many reflecting his love of sports, music, civics and politics.

Gene McCaffrey died November 11 at the age of 88.

Visitation and a funeral mass will be held in London Saturday, November 14.
