Alleged impaired driver hits pole, causes power outage

A 20-year-old Sarnia man is charged with impaired driving following a crash late Thursday night that knocked out power in central Sarnia.

Sarnia police, fire and Lambton EMS responded to a single-vehicle collision just after 11:30 p.m., in the area of Maxwell Street and Capel Street.

Police said a pickup truck was travelling north on Capel Street when it left the road, struck a hydro pole and a fire hydrant and then rolled.

The driver and lone occupant was taken to hospital for observation and released.

Police allege the driver blew over twice the legal limit and has been charged with impaired operation of a vehicle and a blood alcohol concentration of 80 plus.

Bluewater Power crews were on scene making repairs until about 6 a.m. Friday.
