High levels of air pollution are possible this afternoon.

An AIR QUALITY WARNING is in place due to the possibility of deteriorating air quality. Hot and sunny conditions are expected to cause increasing ground-level ozone concentrations this afternoon. Moderate risk AQHI values are expected throughout the day with the potential of short-term high risk AQHI values in the afternoon.

When air pollution levels are high, everyone should limit time outdoors. Consider reducing or rescheduling outdoor sports, activities and events.

You may experience mild and common symptoms such as eye, nose and throat irritation, headaches or a mild cough. More serious but less common symptoms include wheezing, chest pains or severe cough. If you think you are having a medical emergency, seek immediate medical assistance.

People more likely to be impacted by outdoor air pollution, including people aged 65 and older, pregnant people, infants and young children, people with an existing illness or chronic health condition, and people who work outdoors, should reduce or reschedule strenuous activities outdoors and seek medical attention if experiencing symptoms.

A Petrolia native and University of Iowa javelin thrower, has received one of the world’s most prestigious academic scholarships.
Marissa Mueller, 20, <a href="https://www.rhodeshouse.ox.ac.uk/scholars/rhodes-scholars-class-of-2021/marissa-mueller/">was named a Rhodes Scholar Monday</a>, a postgraduate award for students to study at the University of Oxford in England.
The LCCVI graduate was one of 11 Canadians named to the 2021 list.
Mueller is currently enrolled in <a href="https://blackburnnews.com/sarnia/sarnia-sports/2017/01/18/mueller-officially-bound-iowa-university/">BEng Biomedical Engineering, Pre-Medicine at Iowa</a>.
There are now over 100 Rhodes Scholars selected each year, with an average of 250 Scholars resident in Oxford.
