Sarnia's pandemic-year building totals surpass 2019

The value of Sarnia construction in 2020 has overtaken the 2019 pace with one month left to report.

City hall issued 47 building permits worth a total of $8.4 million in November, bringing the year-to-date total to $71.2 million.

Through 11 months last year, the value of permits was $68.5 million.

The largest permit in November was for a $1 million demolition job at 1500 Old Post Rd. A $900,000 permit was issued for renovations at the Sarnia courthouse/Sarnia Jail site at 700 Christina St. N.

There were 10 permits for single-family homes issued in November for a year-to-date total of 58, compared to 52 last year.

New military crosswalk in Sarnia to be unveiled

Two men arrested in Tashmoo Ave. standoff

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
