Sarnia police arrest alleged porch pirate

Sarnia police have arrested a 19-year-old city man who allegedly stole a package off of someone's porch in the area of MacKenzie and Essex Streets.

At around 1:15 p.m. Monday, officers got a call about suspicious males in the area, one of which was carrying a large box.

Police said the theft was captured on surveillance video, and they were able to determine who the suspect was.

The accused was allegedly in possession of some of the stolen articles from the package along with the packing slip. The total value of the stolen items was approximately $500 in women’s clothing. Police said the items were returned to their rightful owner.

The suspect is charged with theft under $5000, possession of property obtained by crime under $5000, and failing to comply with a probation order.

He was being held in custody pending a bail hearing.

Two men arrested in Tashmoo Ave. standoff

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
